As of June 1, 2004 the following change took place regarding forgotten usernames and passwords:

Due to the increased demands of internet security for our client's, CogniLogic will no longer hold usernames and passwords for accounts, including FTP, Admin, and WebMail accounts. When a new username and password are created they will only be saved for 7-days. Within this 7-day period client's may contact a CogniLogic representative for the username and password to be communicated via telephone, or you may request a copy be mailed to you. After 7-days, the newly created username and password will be discarded and will not be accessible to any CogniLogic agent.

If you have forgotten your username and password they must be reset, which will take 24-48 hours to complete. Once the u/p is generated a CogniLogic representative will call you with the new information, or you may request that it be mailed to you via the United States Post Office. Due to the time involved in creating new account accesses we regret to inform you that a $5 service charge will be added to your account for every username and password re-generated on the server; however, during the 7-day period you may contact CogniLogic as many times as you wish at no charge.

To reset your username and/or password, contact a CogniLogic representative.

Why are Passwords so Funky?

Ever wonder why your username and password is so hard to understand? Here's why: Many hackers will send out "Dictionary Attacks" to servers, which are intended to seek out any word, or permeations of words, in the dictionary. Once released Dictionary Attacks will use millions of combinations in just a few seconds to seek out your password. Therefore, if you have a password such as "jack1212" a Dictionary Attack will be able to materialize the data. This is why CogniLogic creates a series of alphanumeric symbols and numbers in various upper- and lower-case letters. It makes it very difficult for hackers to compensate for these types of variables, and in doing so makes your data more secure.

As internet security becomes more previlent CogniLogic demands that our client's data remain secure; therefore, we will not send any username and password via e-mail to any of our clients. This is not only for your protection, but for the protection of CogniLogic services and clients. It is important to know that e-mail is an insecure service in general and vital information of any sort should be communicated via telephone, or by mail.
