A domain name is your internet identity. It is the website address, or URL,
that a user uses to access your website. A domain name can be any name followed
by a .com, .net, or other extension. CogniLogic's domain name is "www.CogniLogic.net".
The "www" stands for World Wide Web; however,"CogniLogic.net"
is the actual website domain name.
A domain name must point to a specific website server in order for it to pop-up in a persons website browser when they type the address; therefore, the domain name must have a home for it to live, i.e, a server that allows public viewing of website html files, such as a CogniLogic server. So, not only must you register a domain name, but you have to point it somewhere. This is where CogniLogic comes in. We will register your domain name(s) and point the domain to our server. You are still the registrant and have full access to the domain name. Another words, you are the owner of your domain name, not CogniLogic. We merely maintain the registration for you so you do not have to concern yourself with making sure the domain stays secure and functional.
Please note that you don't have to register a domain name through CogniLogic
in order for your website to exist publicly on the CogniLogic server. This is
not only true for CogniLogic's hosting services, but true for any hosting service
you will find anywhere.
Registering a New Domain Name
Registering a domain name through CogniLogic is a very simple process. However,
before you register a domain name, you'll want to make sure that it's available
to register, otherwise your request will be rejected causing you to have to
resubmit a registration request. To find out if a domain name is already registered
to another individual, or company, visit Network
Solutions. Just type in the domain name you want to register in the WHOIS
search engine, then a domain name extention, such as .com, or .net and see if
it's available. Once you have found a domain name that is available, just follow
the steps below to register your new domain name through CogniLogic.
At the website page listed above, simply fill out the online form and submit
it by selecting the Submit button at the bottom of the page.
CogniLogic will respond to your request within 24-hours for verification
of the domain names registration.
NOTE: Even though you receive a response that your request has been
approved, the complete domain name process of pointing to the CogniLogic server
may take up to 5-business days. This delay is not due to CogniLogic's response
time, but due to the response time of the current domain name provider; however,
once you have received a CogniLogic approval response letter, your domain
name is secure and no one may take it from you, regardless of how long it
takes to finalize the entire process.
Transfering Your Existing Domain Name(s)
to CogniLogic
If you have a pre-existing domain name that you'd like to transfer to your
new or existing CogniLogic account follow the steps below. There is a small
fee for this transfer, but your current domain registration contract will not
be interrupted. So, if you've paid for one year of registration through another
company and six months into the contract you choose to transfer your domain
to CogniLogic, then you will still have six months left before your domain expires.
At the time of expiration you will be sent an e-mail notification by CogniLogic
to renew your domain name(s) for another year, or longer if you choose. Transfering
a domain name takes a little while longer than registering a brand new one,
because communication between your existing provider and CogniLogic must take
place. Your existing provider must relinquish your domain name(s) to CogniLogic
before CogniLogic can transfer the domain(s). Additionally, your current domain
provider may require you to fill out termination of service paperwork. Please
perform the following steps to transfer your existing domain name(s) to CogniLogic:
NOTE: Remember to tell us in the Comments field that your transfering
the listed domain name(s) from a third party.
CogniLogic will respond to your request within 24-hours to ask you a few
specific questions about your current domain name provider. After you have
supplied us with the necessary information, we will begin communications with
your existing provider. Depending on their response time, we will immediately
transfer your domain name(s) to the CogniLogic server and notify you of its
successful completion.
Renewing Domain Names
Renewing domain names is easy because you don't have to keep track of the renewal
periods. CogniLogic will send you an e-mail informing you that your domain name(s)
are about to expire, and at that time your payment will be due.
